CLASS DESCRIPTION – INSPIRE BY FIGHTING MONKEY
In these weeks we dive into the practice, taking time to taste various elements of FM. By playing with diverse movement situations, dynamic games and tools we are looking at our learning strategies, feedback and energy resources.
Partnerwork with an empasis on listening and handling unpredictability. How do we coordinate ourselves internally and in relation to others?
Fighting Monkey offers me a complex but cheerful learning environment. In my experience it invites you to open your eyes to the many hidden layers behind the obvious. A beauty in conflicts and confusion. Not moving away from discomfort or risk but exactly move in and through uncertain and unpredictable situations. An invitation to a place of all crossings, with surprising encounters that reveal or expose you to new understandings. Being shaken, yet nourished, out of balance, yet interconnected, in struggle and in joy.
Elements we work on
– Dynamic games with obstacles where we test our knowledge and creative adaptability in complex situations. How do we deal with pressure and uncertainty?
– Interaction and partnering, looking at physical communication in a playful way.
– How we coordinate, find rhythm and improvise in its changing environment.
– What is our Zeroform and how do we dance it.

JADE VAN DEN HOUT
Jade van den Hout graduated in 2014 at Fontys Tilburg, operates as a freelance dancer, creator and teacher. She works with the company The100Hands (J. Dzuki Jelen and M. Vogelnik-Skerlj) where she has been active as a performer and co-creator, focusing on interactive and site-specific work, such as 25 Feet, Transformers and Show Me. In 2019 she created the initiative called; DaybyDay; 24-hour projects which serve as a continuous research about the interpretation and meaning of connection. As a maker she wants to create more space and opportunities for new local meetings in which she sees the dancing body as an instrument for communication. Besides her education and working experience the Fighting Monkey Practice (founders J. Frucek and L. Kapetanea) has an increasing influence on her physical development, creative reflection and perspective on movement/life. Over the last years it has been an ongoing red thread and study which brought her to teaching Inspire by FM. Her love for dance and movement has always been a physical and social enthusiasm; the joy of moving the body plus an interest in human social behavior. This curiosity for relating is explored in physical contact and the constantly arising dialogue between herself, others and the surrounding.
